At Much Marcle, Computing is a subject which offers many opportunities in a digital world. By exploring the subject within themes, children will be able to consider real-life applications for their knowledge and skills. Through the exploration of computer science, children will gain an understanding of how everyday objects in their lives work and identify inputs and outputs. Computer science also encourages children to develop their problem solving skills and develops resilience to try again if they are unsuccessful to begin with. These skills can then be applied to many other areas of education and life.

Our computing curriculum will, therefore, create children who are prepared for the modern world of work, providing them with an understanding of knowledge, concepts and skills. We are also aware of the importance of teaching children the opportunities and dangers which the digital world provides. Children will explore the potential of the online world, while learning about how to use it safely. 

We plan by making links between other subjects, where appropriate or through standalone units, Children are able to apply and additionally explore their curriculum knowledge through computing. Children at our school have personalised access to a range of devices and software appropriate to age and stage. 

Children are challenged to explore, find solutions to, and communicate their understanding of real-world problems. Finally, we ensure that children develop an understanding of their online presence and safety. 

This leads to children are resilient solution seekers who can recognise the way that technology shapes and improves our lives. It also leads to children who are able to present and effectively communicate information and ideas in a variety of ways. Most crucially our children know how to use the internet safely and sensibly and know what to do in the event of unacceptable online behaviour.
